Hello Fellow Clubmembers.,

The just concluded trip to Taipei, Taiwan was  a great  experience for our club in many aspects. From the rousing welcome at the airport  and ushered to a bevy of flashy cars of Lexus, Benz and BMW’s  to a sumptuous farewell lunch ( on our last day )  in an exclusive joint, all were marked by exquisite hospitality and friendship!

We left Manila around half past seven that Saturday morning with an aim to “bring home the bacon” to borrow TJ’s God’s speed blessings! Within two hours we landed at the Taoyuan International Airport of Taipei and were met by a Sanchung North contingent led by President Steel. The son of IPP Wedding was a great intermediary as he served as the interpreter the whole of Saturday. There were welcome pictorials to document the trip starting Day 1. The weather was still cool  at around 12 degrees C and the rains and chilling wind send shivers to our spine. Our first stop was a Rotaract anniversary  ( Formosa Rotaract Club ) and this club is sponsored by four Rotary Clubs ( Sanchung North was one of the sponsoring clubs ).  We were given a warm welcome complete with prepared nametags and corsage tacked on our coats. During the start of the program, our  national anthem was also played side by side with the Taiwan’s national anthem and you can just imagine how FDG ( Future District Governor ) Rolly sang with gusto ! We personally witnessed a Rotaract club at work and celebrating their achievements .We were then brought to Capital Hotel for a much needed rest after waking up so early that day. On the nightcap, we were fetched by the same group again and brought to a function room of a Prince Hotel in downtown Taipei. It was again a display of warm welcome , hospitality and sumptuous food ! Sanchung North’s sister club – Rotary Club of Kyoto ( with a contingent of 20 people ) was also present. This event was a special activity rendered  to us Rotarians ( from Manila and Kyoto ) who came in from overseas. President Opee was given opportunity to read his speech in English with Cilin ( Wedding’s son ) translating .

The next day ( the day of their 20th Club Anniversary ), the two visiting Rotary clubs were toured to a ceramic museum amidst a rainy morning. We were then taken to a fish restaurant ran by a lady Rotarian from a sister club. It was again a serving of great food which can wreak havoc to weight watchers! We were then ferried back to our hotel for rest  on the same chartered bus that picked us up in the morning. The bus was equipped with a karaoke and FDG Rolly belted his favourite Spanish repertoire to our delight! On the nightcap, we were again fetched by the same charter bus ( with the Rotarians from Kyoto ) to the their anniversary celebration. We were ushered to a the 6th floor of a luxurious function room which has a seating capacity of 300 persons . It was a great  place and our feeling was “Para kaming nasa DIscon uli ). The giant tarp at the foreground prominently displayed a welcome to the two  visiting clubs . The giant tarp also prominently displayed our flag side by side with Taiwan’s and Japans.  There were many distinguished Rotary guests led by their District Governor and spouse plus many visiting Rotarians . The program was simple but the fellowship that followed  and food that was served were again splendid and awesome. Part of the program was the signing of the sisterhood agreement, exchange of gifts coupled by photo sessions. All throughout the night’s proceedings, we were treated as if we friends already for long already and not to forget the fact that these Rotarians from Sanchung North are top honcho guys running their own companies!

The next day were again city tours for Glenn, Opee, John and myself  . Sam and Rolly went golfing garbed in jackets to fight off hypothermia! You can just imagine how they can win against seasoned Sanchung North golfers who are used to the cold weather...We congregate later the night and we were brought again to a  sumptuous dinner with about ten guys from their club present. The two donated laptops were given to us this day.

On our fourth and last day , we were brought to Taipei 101 by IPP Wedding and PE Color..and it was then that PE Color and IPP Wedding  brought us to an exclusive restaurant  and  then we were treated to a farewell lunch. President Steel also came together with about 4 of their members. After the lunch, there were the customary farewells and we were dropped to the airport !

There were many lessons learned and experiences enjoyed and I know that there will be countless of stories either in this forum or when we meet as a club later!

Please take note that we invited them for the Club Induction on August 3 and we expect members from Sanchung North and from Kyoto be one with us by then!

Regards.

Nonoy
